Hello and welcome! Thank you for visiting my blog. It is amazing to me that we now have the ability to connect with people all over the world. There is magic in knowing that something I write can touch someone so far away from me. This is the beauty of writing, and the power of technology.
I also see this ability as an honor, and responsibility–to use my words to spread a message of hope, healing, and good.
I hope this blog becomes a place of refuge for anyone who chooses to spend time here. I imagine my site as the virtual version of a lazy Sunday morning, your favorite cup of coffee, or the perfect pair of pajamas. Comfortable, reassuring, and safe.
A little more about me…I am a psychiatrist, mother, and writer, currently living in Orange County, California. I am originally of Indian descent, but was raised in Chicago before moving to the West Coast. In terms of my professional life, I am a General and Addiction Psychiatrist, in private practice in Newport Beach. If you wish, you can learn more about my practice at mindful-healing.com. I also teach medical students and residents at the UC Irvine School of Medicine, and work with a number of local charities to provide care to those who couldn’t otherwise afford it. I have a special interest in working with patients with chronic, medical illnesses, and with people approaching the end of life.
I am a mother to two beautiful young children who light up my world. Parenting is one of the craziest, hardest, scariest, and most beautiful journeys I have ever experienced. It is one of the topics I like to write most about, because it is such an important part of my life.
In my free time, I am student of yoga, meditation, and long distance running. All of these are ways for me to release stress, and engage with my body and heart. I have been running since the age of eighteen years old, in the footsteps of my father who is also a long distance runner. Despite that, I still feel very much like a beginner when it comes to any of these activities, because there is always so much to learn.
Writing has been a passion and dream of mine since probably the age of twelve or thirteen years old. Only now am I embracing my identity as a writer. I recently published my first children’s book, “My Dearest One,” which is a book intended to foster healthy attachment between parents and children, and encourage a dialogue about the building blocks of mental health. I hope to write more books for children, and adults, in the future.
Blogging, whether here, or on other sites such as Huffington Post, MindBodyGreen, and TinyBuddha, has allowed a forum for expression and connection that continues to amaze me. My all encompassing intention is to share ideas related to mindfulness, compassion, and gratitude…what I learn from my own lived experience, what my kids teach me, and what my patients share with me.
Thank you for taking the time to visit. I hope you stay awhile. And please know, you are always welcome here.
